The Office of Admissions coordinates admission of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs, as well as visiting, community, and dual credit high school program applications to the university. Applicants to the School of Law and School of Dentistry should refer to those sections of the catalog. The Admissions Office Serves domestic students, which include U.S. citizens, and students who have been granted Permanent Residency, Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (DACA), Assylee, or Refugee status. International students should apply through International Student Affairs.
The office also coordinates the recruitment of students to all undergraduate programs. Recruitment programming includes coordinating communication campaigns with prospective students, creating print and electronic recruitment materials, attending college fair programs, high school and community college visits. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for information about UMKC and its academic programs.
The Office of Admissions coordinates orientation programs for new freshmen and transfer students. For freshmen starting in the Summer or Fall semesters, attending an orientation program is mandatory. These orientation programs are typically offered between April – August. New students starting in the Spring semester have the option to attend an orientation program that is typically hosted in January. For transfer students, orientation is optional. However, transfer students with less than 24 transferrable credit hours are highly encouraged to attend an orientation to ensure a seamless transition to UMKC.
The Welcome Center is the central location for hosting prospective undergraduate students and their families who wish to visit UMKC. A typical visit is comprised of a UMKC overview presentation and a walking tour of campus led by a current student. Students may also visit with representatives from their academic area of interest on designated days. Customized tours are available for groups or individuals who have specialized interests or needs. Large events such as UMKC Preview Days are also coordinated in the Admissions Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is located in the Atterbury Student Success Center, Level 1. To schedule a visit to UMKC, go to the Welcome Center website.
The Communications Center coordinates initial data entry for inquiries to UMKC and provides responses from the university. All prospects and inquiry student records are managed in the Communications Center as are the campaigns (mail, email, phone) to prospective undergraduate students.
