Student Learning Outcomes

Students graduating from this program will:

  • Prepare collaborative piano repertoire using appropriate techniques, resources, and interpretive concepts.
  • Demonstrate understanding of text setting, lyric diction, voicing, tone production, pedaling, and ensemble interaction in vocal and instrumental works.
  • Apply stylistic and historical knowledge—including voicing, diction, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and interpretation—to collaborative performance.
  • Develop musically informed, stylistically appropriate interpretations across diverse genres and periods.
  • Rehearse effectively and engage professionally with partners in varied collaborative settings, preparing for high-level performance and career readiness.

Before enrolling, all students in the certificate program must pass the Diction Proficiency Test for French, German, and Italian, or complete remedial diction course CONSVTY 497 with a grade of B- or higher.
