Undergraduate Certificate Policy

Undergraduate certificate programs of study must include a minimum of 12 credit hours, 9 of which must be upper-level and completed at UMKC. Program requirements must clearly state the potential range of prerequisite credit hours students may need to complete prior to enrollment and certificate completion.

To be granted the undergraduate certificate, students must achieve a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in the certificate program. Only courses with a grade of C- or higher will count toward fulfilling the certificate requirements. Academic units may require a portfolio as a product of skill.

The criteria mentioned above—such as credit hours, grade requirements, GPA requirements, and transfer credits—represent the minimum standards. Academic units may set higher standards.

Undergraduate certificates may only be awarded in conjunction with a UMKC undergraduate degree.
